Six months after the international congress of hydatidology in Lisbon and the 1997 meeting of the WHO-IWGE... Thanks to the wonderful Antonio Menezes da Silva !
Life is going on and research on Echinococcosis too... Most networks are very active : the US classification of hydatid cysts is now ready ; much progress has been made in the classification/staging of alveolar echinococcosis cases, vaccination of sheep and goats is now a reality in many parts of the world, working documents have been proposed for the economic evaluation of the disease, on the vet and medical sides, "immunological and molecular biology tools for the identification of eggs in definitive host" is the subject proposed for the next meeting... in Bariloche, Argentina ? 2 new networks have been created but are still waiting for a full list of participants. We are still waiting for a final administrative decision but we hope that Luis Colón Garcia will soon send you a questionnaire to prepare a catalogue of all educational material you have developed in your different countries to promote prevention and control.
This EchinoNews/EchinoNet is sent by e-mail (as attached file) to all those who sent me their address.
This EchinoNews/EchinoNet will be what you will make of it ! So, don't hesitate to send information, questions, names of colleagues interested in the IWGE or in any particular network ; I hope that a "home page" on the Internet will help us to communicate faster and more easily. Please don't forget to send me your e-mail address when you get any.
Good luck for your research !
